In today’s article, we look at Avid Chronic Racing, a very established team throughout the ranks of Formula SimRacing and who were very fierce competitors towards the latter part of last season where they managed to clinch a fair few podiums. This year will be the 4th year in a row that Avid Chronic Racing have participated in the highest division of Formula SimRacing and their lineup is looking like it has a lot of potential this year with ACE Champion Michi Hoyer lining up alongside Winter Series Champion Martin Stefanko.

Martin had a very good showing at the end of last year as he managed to secure multiple podium finishes and an extremely strong showing in the Winter Series has proved for him to be a serious contender this season but will he live up to expectations against such experienced opponents?

On the other hand, Michi has had a lot of experience throughout the ranks of Formula SimRacing and even notably winning both Championships in ACE last year by a massive 139 points. Michi has been known to be a very good team player and must be looking forward to the challenge ahead of him this year.

We managed to catch up with Martin and Michi to ask them a few questions about the season ahead.

What are your goals for the upcoming season in Formula SimRacing?

Michi:After winning the ACE series in 2016, I want to confirm that this title was valid and well deserved. That’s why I am looking to achieve a top 5 position in the drivers championship this year.”

Martin: “I haven’t done many races compared to other, more experienced drivers, but I think that we’ve showed last year on a few occasions, that we can fight at the front, so for me personally, the goal is to finish in top 5, but everybody is here to win and that’s the same mindset for me.”

Who do you think will be your biggest rival this season?

Michi: “The biggest rival for any season is your teammate. He uses the same materials as you and is the one to beat first. Apart from that, I expect the Twisters to be very strong as well as VBMadcape. Also, to be fair, you never know what new entrants like Stormcharge are able to do.”

Martin: “Definitely my teammate, Michi. Not only is he in the same car, hence he is the one you can really compare yourself to, but he’s also a really quick and strong driver, especially when it matters the most. Otherwise it’s tough to say because nobody knows how quick everybody is, but I think it’s going to be the usual Twister, Ghostspeed, VBMadcape at the front.”

How strong do you think the grid looks this year?

Michi: “The grid contains a lot of quality this year. Whereas it looks a little small at the moment, I do believe that racing and the competition will be quite tense.”

Martin: “I believe the grid will be as strong as it was in the previous years. We have some new talented teams and drivers coming to FSR, so it’s going to be interesting to see how they perform.”
